Sr. Manager, Chemical Manufacturing

About the Role

Manage the daily operations of a chemical manufacturing laboratory to ensure it meets or exceeds KPIs for quality, safety, cost, on-time delivery, and compliance with all regulatory standards. Responsible for managing floor supervisors and technical associates, and for overseeing the equipment, budgets, and workflows to support high quality scientific research, testing, and production. Represent the chemistry manufacturing area in cross-functional decision-making. Job duties:

  • Manage, train, and develop lab associates on manufacturing procedures, test methods, and chemical/lab safety.
  • Identify and drive efforts for continuous improvement, process optimization, capacity expansion, and cost savings related to chemical manufacturing processes.
  • Author, review, and approve technical documents (e.g., manufacturing procedures, test methods, test protocol/reports, etc.) to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Author, review, and approve lab investigations (OOS, OOT, Deviations) and ensure appropriate root cause analysis, impact assessment, and corrective action.
  • Collaborate with the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) team to enforce safety protocols and regulatory standards, and conduct safety audits, risk assessments, incident investigations, and handling hazardous chemicals and waste disposal.
  • Manage budget and track spending of manufacturing labor, lab supplies, instrument and equipment service contracts, and service lab testing.
  • Evaluate and recommend laboratory equipment, instrumentation upgrades, and new technologies to support future manufacturing needs.
  • Comply with applicable Laws and Regulations, adhere to Quality Management System processes and requirements as well as demonstrate Ethics and Integrity in all matters and at all levels throughout the organization.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Biology, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field
  2. Minimum of eight (8) years of relevant work experience, including at least five (5) years of direct experience with engineering and/or manufacturing for chemical or biochemical products.
  3. Minimum of two (2) years of management experience.
  4. Strong problem solving, organization, and production floor management acumen.
  5. Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills and a demonstrated ability to influence cross-functional decision-making.
  6. Proficient with MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.

Desired Qualifications

  1. Master’s degree in chemistry or chemical engineering.
  2. Minimum of ten (10) years of direct experience with engineering and/or manufacturing in organic chemistry synthesis lab.
  3. Experience in a regulated environment including medical device or biopharmaceutical.
  4. Lean Six Sigma Certification.
  5. Minimum of five (5) years of management experience.

Physical

  • Extended periods of computer use.
  • Extended periods of sitting or standing.
  • Light lifting, up to 25 lbs.
  • May be required within the position to be in an environment that can include radiation exposure (such as in Cathlabs).
